Delete Old Versions of Windows: Windows automatically stores your system files from older versions of Windows once you upgrade. This is done so that you can access old data if required. However, these files occupy a lot of disk space (sometime in GBs) and affect system performance. To delete these files, open the Settings App and navigate to System > Storage and then click on your primary drive. It will display a list of different categories and space occupied by them. Scroll down to find Temporary Files and click on it. Now mark the checkbox ‘Previous Versions of Windows and hit remove Files.

Save files to different drives: It is an intelligent move to distribute your data in a way that your drives can’t get full very easily. If your system has multiple hard disks or partitioned hard disk you can optimize these disks by changing default save locations for different data like apps, docs, music etc. on different drives. To do this go to Settings > System > Storage. Under Save, locations specify the different drives for different categories. You can select any drive even USB flash drive connected to your system for specific data storage.

Delete Hibernation data:
When you put your system in hibernate mode – a quasi-shutdown state it allows you faster startup. Though in hibernate mode your system saves snapshots of your running programs and open files before shutting down, which takes a lot of disk space. Hibernate mode saves all this data on your system hard disk thus consumes a lot of system resources. If you are not looking for a faster startup than you can evict hibernate mode. This will automatically remove any associated files or data from previous hibernations. To disable hibernate mode go to Command Prompt, right click on it, and choose Open as Administrator. Now type ‘powercfg.exe -h off’ and press Enter.
